My name is Antonio Ansanelli, and I have been passionate about amateur radio (ham radio) and antenna home-construction since 1969. Over the years, I have dedicated myself to building high-efficiency antennas and RF accessories, driven by the desire to turn theoretical concepts into real, practical, and high-performance solutions. For me, home-building represents the true essence of amateur radio: the perfect combination of technical knowledge, hands-on craftsmanship, and continuous curiosity.
The project presented here was developed to solve a common challenge among radio operators: achieving excellent HF performance in limited spaces. After three years of testing, simulations, and real-world experimentation, I designed a dual parallel magnetic loop antenna optimized for the 10–21 MHz band. This configuration intentionally excludes 28 MHz to maximize stability and performance within the target spectrum.
My goal was to create a compact, stable, and highly efficient HF antenna, suitable for both portable setups and fixed stations. The design process followed a rigorous engineering approach—from preliminary calculations and magnetic field simulations to resonance tests and efficiency measurements.
The antenna is built using 40×2 mm anodized aluminum flat bar, a 19–163 pF variable capacitor, and a motorized remote-tuning system. Every structural and electrical choice was made to achieve the best possible balance between efficiency, mechanical strength, and user practicality.
The result is a unique dual-loop magnetic antenna that is elegant, compact, and remarkably efficient. It delivers excellent performance across the entire operating band, maintaining a stable resonance and high radiation efficiency. Beyond the technical achievements, this project reaffirmed the importance of preserving the experimental spirit that has always driven the amateur radio community.
I hope this work inspires other enthusiasts to explore advanced antenna design, RF experimentation, and innovative construction techniques. Amateur radio continues to evolve through knowledge sharing, collaboration, and the passion to push the boundaries of what is possible.
